Turkish Energy Minister “Fatih Donmez” announced that starting in January 2020 it is not possible to buy, sell or rent homes without obtaining a mandatory energy identity certificate in buildings.
The local newspaper, “Hyperlar”, which cited the news, quoted Minister Dunmez as saying that buildings that do not have energy credentials cannot be bought, sold or rented either from January 1.
Energy identity is information about energy requirements, energy consumption classification of the building, greenhouse gas emissions level, insulation properties, and efficiency of heating and cooling systems in order to ensure efficient use of energy resources.
Building owners can obtain an identity document by contacting energy efficiency consulting firms approved by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
The Minister stated that architects who have obtained a license to organize identity certificates can issue energy identity certificates for new buildings.
